Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX (Unified Minds), also known as Eggrow, is a fun budget deck that can absord insane amounts of damage.
The deck uses Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX to set up and attack, while using Vileplume-GX, Leavanny, and trainer cards to keep you alive.
It’s just crazy enough to work… sometimes.
Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX is tanky enough with 270 HP, but its attack, Super Growth (for no energy cost) will let you set up support Pokemon to make it even tankier!
Super Growth lets you “search your deck for a card that evolves from 1 of your grass Pokemon and put it onto that Pokemon to evolve it. If that Pokemon is now a Stage 1 Pokemon, search your deck for a Stage 2 Pokemon that evolves from that Pokemon and put it onto that Pokemon to evolve it. Then, shuffle your deck.”
I know that I just ranted about how Stage 2 Pokemon are awful, but this deck uses three Stage 2 Pokemon to support Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX. And that’s fine because they’re easy to set up in this deck!
The first support Pokemon is Leavanny, which has a great ability — your grass Pokemon take 40 less damage from your opponent’s attacks. Some lists run a 1-1-1 line because its ability doesn’t stack, but it would be devastating to have one of them prized, which is why you might want to run 2-2-2.
The second support Pokemon is the newly-released Vileplume-GX, which also has a useful ability — once during your turn (before your attack), you may heal 30 damage from each of your Pokemon.
With Leavanny and Vileplume-GX, you’re effectively mitigating 70 damage. With an additional Vileplume-GX, you can mitigate up to 100 damage!
For decks that run Ultra Beasts, you can even use Sceptile, which prevents all damage done to your Pokemon that have any grass energy attached to them by attacks from your opponent’s Ultra Beasts.
But that’s not all! You should also utilize trainers to heal your Pokemon, like Great Potion and Mixed Herbs.
You can even use Choice Helmet to mitigate another 30 damage from the attacks of your opponent’s Pokemon-GX.
And don’t forget that grass types have even more trainer options for healing, like Life Forest Prism Star and Gardenia.
