Excadrill Does Tons of Damage With a Single Energy

I was skeptical of Excadrill (Cosmic Eclipse) at first. After all, it requires you to mill your own deck. But it’s actually a lot of fun!

Excadrill has two powerful attacks that both require only one Fighting Energy.

Drill Bazooka does a flat 120 damage and discards the top four cards of your deck. Don’t worry; you’re supposed to thin out your deck with Excadrill.

Eleventh Hour Tackle does a flat 30 damage and 150 more damage if you have 3 or fewer cards in your deck.

For one energy, 180 damage isn’t that bad!

Obviously, you don’t want to deck out and lose the game. That’s why you want to run one (or even two) Phione (Cosmic Eclipse), which has an ability that makes your opponent switch their Pokemon if you put Phione from your bench to the bottom of your deck.

When you run out of cards in your deck, use Phione every turn, and you’ll draw Phione the next turn.

But Excadrill can do even more damage with Diancie Prism Star (Forbidden Light)! While Diance is on the bench, your fighting Pokemon do 20 more damage to your opponent’s active Pokemon.

Excadrill can also utilize Buff Padding, which brings his HP to 190. With the extra health and damage, Excadrill is like a pseudo-GX.

Of course, you’ll also need help discarding cards to unlock Excadrill’s true potential.

Zebstrika (Lost Thunder) helps you kill two birds with one stone because its ability allows you to discard your hand and draw four cards.

Clay is also a natural fit for Excadrill — discard the top 7 cards of your deck, and if any of those cards are Item cards, put them into your hand.

Clay is perfect because it will let you pick up Lana’s Fishing Rod in case you accidentally discard some Pokemon or Buff Padding. You can also use Clay to pick up Energy Recycler.

But now you have so many Pokemon in this deck — Zebstrika, Diancie, Excadrill, and Phione. Thankfully, you’ll be able to set up these Pokemon relatively quickly with Professor Oak’s Setup.
