Swoobat Is the Poor Man’s Roxiechomp

Let me be frank: Swoobat (Cosmic Eclipse) isn’t good, but if you’re on an extremely tight budget and want to somewhat replicate Roxiechomp, try to give this deck a spin.

Swoobat has only 90 HP and it will get one-shot by pretty much anything — that’s why you pair it with Spell Tag.

For one Psychic Energy, your opponent picks one of their Pokemon and does 90 damage to it. 90 damage for one Energy is decent, but the obvious downside is that your opponent can be strategic about which Pokemon they put the damage on.

But paired with Spell Tag and a few other cards, you might be able to put down some damage counters before your opponent completely obliterates you.

The Pokemon

Swoobat is a single prize deck, which gives you some wiggle room to play around with.

Giving away a few prize cards with Mismagius (Unbroken Bonds) won’t hurt that bad in the long run and the extra draw power is nice. If you’re going to play Mismagius, you’ll need a few copies of Dusk Stone as well.

And since this deck is all about putting damage counters on your opponent’s Pokemon, you should run Weezing (Cosmic Eclipse) and Roxie. For each Weezing discarded with Roxie, you can put 1 damage counter on each of your opponent’s Pokemon. And the extra draw power from Roxie isn’t bad either.

Add in one copy of Mimikyu (Cosmic Eclipse) to shut down your opponent’s abilities.

The Trainers

Every single Pokemon in this deck is a Psychic type, so Mysterious Treasure is an obvious choice. In order to retrieve your Weezings to use with Roxie, Lure Ball will come in handy as well.

Since you’re in the business of putting down damage counters, slap a few Shrine of Punishments into this deck. Throw in a few Reset Stamps as well for added disruption.

For great search power, use Green’s Exploration — the only Pokemon in this deck with abilities are Weezing and Mismagius, and they will be in the discard pile for most of the game.

Add in your draw supporter of choice. I think Lillie works well in this deck, but perhaps you’d prefer Cynthia.

Deck Rating: D

You’re not seriously thinking of playing with this deck, are you?

Your best matchups are against other meme decks with low-HP bench sitters. Watch out for Mew (Unbroken Bonds), which completely shuts down this deck.

  1. I’m currently trying this deck out! It’s a shame that it loses hard against Mew. At least not everyone is playing it!
